Children and Adolescents

I provide child and adolescent therapy that helps young people understand their emotions, develop healthy coping skills, and build resilience while supporting parents throughout the process.

Early therapeutic intervention can help children develop healthy coping skills before challenges become more deeply rooted.

Children are constantly developing emotionally, socially, cognitively, and psychologically. As they grow, they encounter new expectations, challenges, and experiences that can affect their wellbeing. What appears as defiance may actually be frustration. What looks like laziness may be anxiety. Withdrawal may reflect sadness, fear, or difficulties with self-confidence.

Children often communicate distress through behaviour because they have not yet developed the language or emotional awareness needed to express their experiences directly.

Understanding Children/ Teens

When children learn how to understand and manage their emotions, they are better equipped to navigate school, friendships, family relationships, and future life challenges.

How I work with Children/ Teens

Depending on age and needs, sessions may include:

  • Play-based interventions
  • Creative activities
  • Storytelling techniques
  • Emotional awareness exercises
  • Behavioural skill-building
  • Problem-solving activities
  • Parent-child collaboration

Working with children requires a different approach than working with adults.

Children learn, communicate, and process experiences in ways that are appropriate to their developmental stage. Therapy therefore needs to be engaging, supportive, and tailored to the individual child.

Parents play an important role in the therapeutic process. I work closely with caregivers to ensure that the progress made during sessions can be reinforced at home. For adolescents, therapy often focuses on emotional regulation, identity development, self-esteem, academic stress, peer relationships, and communication with parents.

The goal is not simply to eliminate challenging behaviours but to strengthen emotional wellbeing and support healthy development.

Group Sessions

Coming in as a family - whether it's mother and child ,father and child, or the whole family unit - can seem daunting, but my space is tailored to put you and your family at ease. No frills, or gimics, just an open, and honest environment.
